Message of Christmas Lights!
Christmas lights inspire all of us. When we took our children to see the Christmas lights, it was always a memorable experience. We look at them and get amazed, and then we take pictures and share them with others. This year, my employer requested that we share pictures of Christmas lights and decorations of our house or neighboring houses, because people are excited to see the beauty of these lights.
The light captures our attention and imaginations. It gives peace, hope, and confidence for the future.
I was told the custom of Christmas trees goes back to a period when the trees were adorned with candles, which, of course, symbolized Jesus Christ being the light of the world.
The lights of Christmas can be a powerful testimony to the world about God, about whom the Bible says in 1 John 1:5-7. It says there that “God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”
The fact that God is light also immediately conveys the message that in Him there is no darkness. Light and darkness are contrasts to each other. As light is for goodness, rightness, or righteousness, darkness stands for bad and evil things. In God, there are no bad, evil, or sinful things. He is full of Light. Christmas lights portray in the minds of people the beauty and goodness of God.
We want to walk and associate with God, who is light, don’t we? However, how is that possible? As sinful and bad by nature in ourselves, how can we have fellowship with God, who is holy and full of the Light?
Christmas gives an answer to that puzzling question. Remember, Jesus said, and it is recorded in John 8:12. He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” In essence, Jesus is the way for us to have fellowship with God, who is holy and full of light. If we follow Jesus, we don’t need to walk in darkness, but we will have the light of life. There is no need to be afraid of the darkness on our way, or walking in darkness, because Jesus, His word, and promises to give the light to walk in fellowship with God.
There is an operating system continually in motion when we follow Jesus Christ. John said in above cited verse in 1st John that “but if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” Note the phrase the blood of Jesus! This is the operating system of continual purification, helping us to walk with God- the blood of Jesus Christ and nothing else.
It is not by going to Mecca or Sabarimala, it is not bathing in the rivers of Gangas or visiting a holy place you consider, but it is the belief and trust in Him (Jesus), who died and then rose again victoriously for our bad and evil, whom God gave for our purification and salvation, that keeps us in walking with God in light.
Every year, the Christmas lights deliver a message to us. God is light, and in Him there is no darkness. Those who wish to have fellowship with God can find full fellowship and acceptance in the blood of Christ. The reason is that the blood of Christ is the only ransom that can pay off our debts of sin that we owe to God and make us perfect in the sight of God to walk with Him.
Beloved, did you ask God to purify you to get forgiveness and then fellowship with God by the blood of Jesus Christ yet? Try a simple prayer with the God of the universe now. He will purify from all blemishes by the merit of Jesus’s blood. You will be glad in this Christmas season of the year.
